salad, pasta, dessert

family style dinners are one of our favorite ways to dine. we kicked off this dinner with a morningside farmers market salad of arugula, radish, carrot, grilled eggplant, cherry peppers and parmesan cheese with a red wine vinaigrette.
pasta is a great dish for a family style meal. warm and comforting housemade tagliatelle with garlic-anchovy sauce, bacon, spinach and late summer tomatoes.
a rather euro dessert for staplehouse. the perfect ripe cheese! a wedge of sweet grass dairy's green hill, with a sweet watermelon and basil salad and concord grape sauce.
thanks again to (from left to right) mark, david, heather, stacie, tim, stacey, rachel, christian, andrew and ted!

dinner 34

figs! my local fig source dried up early this season, so these beautiful calimyrna figs came to us via california. yum!
cheers, time to get to it!first up, chilled athena melon soup with cucumber, mint and olive oil.most of the time, less is more. simple fig brulee, arugula, 12 month manchego cheese, sea salt and lemon.
a pale green rectangle canvas of avocado, salad of peeky toe crab and ripe summer tomatoes. a drizzle of creamy jalapeno and crispy tortilla. all things summer on one plate.must have had mexican food on my mind. for the main course, a tostada of chili braised berkshire pork, cabbage and watermelon radish slaw, crema and housemade hot sauce.more figs... this time fig jam and honeysuckle's buttermilk gelato rest on an elephant ear sprinkled with powdered sugar and mint. for those wondering what an elephant ear is, it's a favorite of carnival and festival goers. a fried yeast dough that is liken to a chewy french toast, so good!

dinner 33

it's hot, i mean really hot, so we start with a little spice. creamy puree of corn soup with chili marinated shrimp and mojo oil. we infused grape seed oil with cumin, orange, scallions and garlic and drizzled over the soup to finish.
a simple bean salad. local green beans and roasted peppers with a warm guanciale vinaigrette and ciabatta crumbs. guanciale is italian style bacon made from pork cheeks without the addition of smoke.
lightly smoked north georgia trout with potato salad, pickled red onions and house made chive sour cream.
my favorite dish of the night. crispy chicken thigh with heirloom tomato salad and herb "caesar".
a match made in heaven. honeysuckle gelato is a new face to the atlanta frozen treat scene and boy are we glad they are here. peanut butter gelato with housemade fig jam. it evokes the child within, memories or munching on a PB&J are different but somehow the same. unreal!
thanks to (left to right) don, traci, connie, hal, erica, chris, catherine, melissa, andy and rianna!
